The Observatory

As the glistering stars and moon awaken over the horizon, the moon the brightest of them all, the student keeps quiet, observing the peaceful scenery. Hanging like Christmas lights below the Roman dome, the lantern lights dimly illuminate the Observatory. In front of the writer, three large, round-arched windows allow students to look over the hill, down onto the entire world of IK2W. Above them, a transparent dome allows for readers and travelers to stare into the unknown, to find their own little place in the grand scheme of the sky. With many rocking chairs, energetic students can ease into this reflective state of mind.

Sitting on the large brick walls are numerous banners, each with their own unique message to facilitate reflection. Some are simple questions like “What is the author trying to say?” and “What do I believe?” which reminds readers of what to do when analyzing a story. On the other hand, some are deep quotes that inspire creativity and thought. Nonetheless, it’s here where readers find themes and deep concepts within books, whether big or small. 

Outside the Observatory, in front of the three windows, sits a balcony. From the extensive view, one can hone in on details that were missed when they first arrived at the island, with the true beauty of it all now at the hands of the viewer to play with. On the balcony, the cold, graceful wind encourages writers to venture out of their physical bodies to space out in their own little imaginations. With each seat comes a powerful telescope, letting those who wish to explore and search the night sky to find meaning all throughout. As one bathes in the light of the moon, they shoot for it with every adventure, and even if they fail, they’ll at least land in the stars.
