Quill Room

The Quill Room by Megan Tran, YWA member 2026

Near the heart of the academy campus, the quill room can be found within the center. Upon entering the building, a swarm of lights welcome the new travelers inside the bean bag room, where many of our fireflies and other peers lie. Adorned at every sign, window, and corner of the room, purple lilacs bloom and fill the atmosphere with a sweet scent. 

As found in every part of the school, engravings of motivation and slogans can be found against every wall and piece of furniture. Among all the signs, The Quill Room, where the purpose of this location can be clearly seen, there is a ribbon underneath that shares the major intent: Write Your Heart. Share Your Light.

In this space, students are meant to share their pieces of writing with the rest of the community, to receive constructive criticism. Whilst the bright lights from outside shine through the panels of the glass window panes, the sunbeams scatter around the beanbags, lighting up each person that chooses to sit there and be brave about reading out. For every student here, it is imperative to acknowledge that each story matters, and everyone should be considerate of their work. 

At the corner, next to the pair of windows, a desk lies with that same message, meant for a teacher to take note of what is being said, and to ensure that what is said improves the writing of their peers. One at a time, each newcomer orates their piece that they require assistance for, whether it be a question regarding emotion or a certain part of their writing that does not mesh well. 

Above the bulletin board, journals are available to write comments whilst the person is talking to ensure nothing is forgotten or lost after they are finished. With feedback in mind, students should acknowledge that providing positive comments are also a fundamental part of identifying strengths and weaknesses.

For whoever is speaking out their writing, their main goal is to polish their voice and create a piece that is complete in the writing process, which includes editing. For Inspire Kids 2 Write Academy, change is a fundamental part of the journey, and this room will be the source of such belief.
