The Impossible Resort

This week, we will design our brochure.

You can do this by hand, or you can use a computer program like Canva. Either way, effort is the name of the game.

You will present next week!

In addition, we will begin the blueprints for our Halloween Contest stories. Please use bullet points and fragments. You also need to color code the parts of your story to match the story hill below.

Remember, your story is only as good as your plan, so spend the time to make sure you have a well thought out plot line.

The three endings that are not allowed are: it was all a dream, they lived happily ever after, and everyone died.

Expository Vs. Persuasive

Expository is about giving information while persuasive is about convincing someone to take action. It is really easy to slip into persuasive while planning this project. Here are some examples of what would be expository and what would be persuasive:

Persuasive: “Book now and save!”
Expository: “The facility contains 12 modular habitats connected by pressurized corridors.”

With expository, use neutral language, third person; avoid “you/your,” superlatives, and commands.

A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea. If a word can wear a name tag—or you can point to it, count it, or talk about it—it’s probably a noun.

Quick ways to spot a noun
  • The article test
  • Pronoun swap
  • Counting/amount: Can you count it or measure it?
  • Preposition check: Does it fit after a preposition
