Harbor of New Beginnings

The Harbor of New Beginning by Shreyas Ray, YWA member 2026

As the students step onto the weathered wooden docks, the smell of the crisp, briny harbor air rises to greet them. The smell consists of a mineral-rich salt, sun-warmed wooden planks, and dampened stones, subtly intertwined with the aroma of fresh, citrusy wildflowers. This distinct odor, carrying the freshness of new ideas, cleanses all anxiety from the minds of the scholars present at the harbor, replacing it with a peaceful clarity that carries throughout the Inspire campus.

In front of the sign lies a cozy cottage covered with a verdant overgrowth, containing a plethora of welcoming staff members, ready to assist students in whatever they require. Past the cottage resides an array of benches on the outskirts of a cobblestone pathway. Unlike the harbor, the pathway remains uninhabited by lamps, yet the vast population of fireflies within the harbor makes sure that the atmosphere remains backed by a soft and steady glow, even in the dead of night.

While the harbor serves as an introduction to the place, the stone walkway remains separate in motive, mainly being used as an introduction to the people. Students can be seen interacting with one another or in small groups, placing themselves on the numerous benches planted on the pathway, or choosing to get a dockside view of the surrounding sea.

Most conversations on the Harbor of New Beginnings contain a single topic: the anxiety of being here. Through connecting with different people, all ranging from different cultures and backgrounds, each and every one of the students realize that they are not the only ones who have these fears. As the students walk together, their anxiety and hesitant nature transforms into a shared excitement before the path leads them to their next destination.
